Other 3 series first games suspended by rain, reset for Saturday

The rain and Cherryville won on Friday night as the second round of the Area IV American Legion baseball playoffs began.
Cherryville, the West No. 1 seed, clipped East No. 4 Matthews 7-0 in Cherryville while the other three series opening games were suspended and rescheduled for Saturday, with Game 2 in each series to follow completion of those games.
The Gaston Braves and Cleveland County were tied at 1 in the third inning before their game in Belmont was suspended, with completion set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Shelby High
East top seed Queen City trailed host Caldwell County 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning when play was halted. Completion of the game was set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Queen City with Game 2 to follow.
A scoreless tie between Burke County and Rutherford County was suspended in the first inning. Completion was set for Saturday at Shuey Field in Morganton with Game 2 to follow.
All four of the series are best-o-5 and they are trying to get done by Tuesday.
The semifinals (best-of-7) are scheduled July 143.
