DEAL
Mississippi nipped visiting Pensacola (Fla.) on Saturday, but reliever Hayden Deal had a tough outing in that 7-6 victory.
Deal, a left-handed reliever from Bandys High, threw 1 1/3 inning in 96-degree heat and gave up four hits and four runs, all earned, with two walks and no strikeouts.
The result: Deal’s ERA rose to 4.22 in 21 games this season (42 2/3 innings, 36 strikeouts.
Deal threw strikes on 21 of his 41 pitches against 10 batters before a crowd of 3,597.
The Braves (37-43) continue the series on Sunday.
Deal has now pitched in 108 pro games with a record of 22-17 and an ERA of 3.25. He has 316 strikeouts in 359 2/3 innings.
He was assigned to the Atlanta Braves on April 4, when they played Toronto, but did not pitch. He was then sent to Mississippi to start his season there and Atlanta opened the season on April 7 against the Reds.
