NEWTON — Caldwell County Post 29 downed Hickory Post 48 for the second time this season in American Legion baseball on Wednesday night at the Legion Fairgrounds, winning 9-2.
Will Stewart and Kade Smith each had two hits in the loss for Hickory, which fell to 6-11 overall in Area IV and 3-9 in the West Division.
Kevin Shuford, Bradley Fleenor, Seth Sigmon and Jorge Rodriquez each had one hit for Post 48.
Hickory, which has lost two straight games and five of its last six, plays Cherryville at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Henkel-Alley Field and has a road regular season game on Friday at 7 p.m. against Burke County in Morganton.
The Legion playoffs are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
