GASTONIA — Zach Jarrett is off to a hot start for the Gastonia Honey Hunters, hitting .389 in five games.
Jarrett, released by the Baltimore Orioles as spring training ended, is 7-for-18 with a d0uble, a home run and four RBIs as Gastonia has started the season 5-1.

Gastonia plays in the Atlantic League’s Professional Baseball South Division and plays its home games at CaroMont Health Park (Sims Field).
The Honey Hunters’ season continues Thursday with a home game against the Lancaster Barnstormers, and Staten Island arrives to play Friday through Sunday in Gastonia.
Jarrett spent four seasons in the minor leagues with Baltimore after being drafted in the 28th round of the 2017 draft. He was a college baseball star at Charlotte.
He played in 398 pro games before signing with Gastonia. That included 91 games last season for Triple-A Norfolk (Va.), and he had 65 doubles, 10 triples, 37 home runs and 167 RBIs and a career .257 batting average.
Last season in Triple-A, he hit .221 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs, and he was in spring training with the Orioles and went 1-for-3 before being released.
