MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Norfolk wins in Charlotte but Jarrett doesn’t play

Norfolk (Va.) edged host Charlotte 4-1 on Friday night in Triple-A baseball with Zach Jarrett in the lineup.

Jarrett, a former Hickory High and Charlotte star, was last in the Tides lineup on Thursday night when they beat the Knights 11-6.

The series continues with a game at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday and another at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Jarrett’s batting average is down to .237 and he has eight home runs and 29 RBIs this season.

The Tides are 39-53 and in sixth place in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 20 1/2 games back of Durham.

Jarrett has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19, and he has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020).

He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 and taken in the 28th round after a solid college career at Charlotte. In high school, he was a multiple sports start at Hickory.
