Hayden Deal got his 16th start of the season on Friday night for the Mississippi Braves — a short one.
Going back to the starting rotation after three straight relief appearances, Deal worked two-thirds of an inning of a road game against Montgomery (Ala.).
He threw strikes of 10 of his 14 pitches, facing three batters, and gave up one hit and struck out two.
The Braves won the nightcap 9-0 and started the night with a 3-1 victory.
The series continues through the weekend in Montgomery.
Deal is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.90 and now has 67 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings this season, and he has 275 strikeouts as a pro in 309 1/3 innings.
A former Bandys High star, Deal is in his first full season of Double-A ball.
Mississippi is 57-37 and leads the Double-A South’s South Division over Montgomery by 6 1/2 games.
