Zach Jarrett went hitless, striking out three times in four at-bats, but Norfolk (Va.) nipped division-leading Durham 3-1 on Tuesday night in Durham.
Jarrett, a baseball star at Hickory High and in college at Charlotte, batted ninth in the Tides’ order in the win.
He is batting .235 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs as Norfolk continues the series at Durham through Sunday.
Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey did not pitch on Tuesday night. He is in Norfolk on a rehab assignment and it’s unclear if the Baltimore Orioles will return him to the big leagues this season. That decision should come within the next 10 days.
The Tides are 44-64 and in sixth place in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 24 games back of Durham.
Jarrett has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19, and he has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020).
He was drafted by the Orioles in 2017 and taken in the 28th round.
