DEAL

Hayden Deal had another solid start on Tuesday night when the Mississippi Braves won again.

The Braves beat visiting Montgomery (Ala.) 4-1 to open a series but Deal did not gain a decision despite pitching well.

Making his 17th start of the season, he went four innings and gave up two hits. He hit one batter and had no walks and four strikeouts.

Deal threw strikes on 27 of his 36 pitches and faced 13 batters. He is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.61 with one save and has 72 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings.

The Braves are in their final homestand of the season and play Montgomery through Sunday.

Deal should get at least one more start, as the Braves close the regular season with a six-game series at Chattanooga (Tenn.) on Sept. 14-19.

Mississippi is 62-40 and leads the Double-A South’s South Division by nine games with Montgomery and Pensacola (Fla.) tied for second place.
