The Durham Bulls were bullish on Tuesday night, opening a Triple-A series at Norfolk (Va.) by blanking the Tides 11-0.
Former Hickory High and Charlotte star Zach Jarrett started in centerfield and batted third for Norfolk but did not reach base, going 0-for-4 and striking out twice.
Jarrett, whose batting average dipped to .265, has struck out 55 times in 162 at-bats this season.
The series continues Wednesday night in Norfolk.
The Tides are 23-29 and in fourth place in the Triple-A Southeast Division, 13 games behind the division-leading Bulls (37-17).
Jarrett was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 and taken in the 28th round.
