SARASOTA, Fla. – Former Hickory High star Zach Jarrett got an at-bat in Sunday with the spring training lineup of the Baltimore Orioles.
Jarrett, an outfielder who finished last season at Triple A Norfolk (Va.) was assigned to the Orioles on Sunday and played left field while getting his at-bat at sixth in the order. He went 0-for-1 in a 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox.
Jarrett is not currently on Baltimore’s 40-man roster and is listed on the 2022 roster for Norfolk.
He played in 102 games last season in the minors, hitting .231 with 10 home runs, 14 doubles and driving in 45 runs. He is a career .256 hitter with 37 home runs and 167 RBIs in more than 1,400 at-bats.
After starring in college at Charlotte, the son of former NASCAR champion Dale Jarrett was a 28th round pick by the Orioles in the 2017 draft.
The Orioles have games remaining this week against the Pirates (two), Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Tigers.
Norfolk’s season begins April 5 with a six-game series against Charlotte.
If Jarrett is again assigned to the Tides, his first trip to Charlotte this season will be May 16-22. Fans could also potentially see Jarrett play when Norfolk visits Durham on May 22-24 and Sept. 20-25.
