NEWTON – Bandys High running back Ethan Howard has won the WNNC Oldies 101.3 FM Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award for Week 12 of the football season.
Howard, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior, sparked the Trojans’ 53-50 home victory over North Lincoln last Friday night with 31 carries for a season-high 205 yards. He scored two TDs, including a game-winning 5-yard score in a back-and-forth game.
Bandys (5-6, 3-4) earned a state playoff bid with its victory over the Knights. The Trojans play at unbeaten Hibriten on Friday at 7:30 p.m in a first-round 2AA game.
Howard is the second Bandys player to win the award this season. Two weeks ago, running back-quarterback Ja’Tay Culliver was the selection.
The Golden Helmet Award, in its 36th year, is presented each week after area head football coaches nominate players for consideration.
