NEWTON – Maiden High wide receiver Caleb McDaniel has won the WNNC Oldies 101.3 FM Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award for Week 11 of the football season.
McDaniel, a 5-foot-9, 150-pound junior, had 12 catches for 160 yards – including a game-winning touchdown catch in the final 26 seconds – to lead Maiden past visiting Newton-Conover 30-27 last Friday night in a battle for first place in the South Fork 2A at Maiden’s Thomas E. Brown Stadium.
The Blue Devils (10-0, 6-0) go for an undefeated regular season record on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a game at Lincolnton.
The Golden Helmet Award, in its 36th year, is presented each week after area head football coaches nominate players for consideration.
