NEWTON – Fred T. Foard High’s Tate Beaver is the second Tigers player to win the WNNC Oldies 101.3 FM Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award this season.
Beaver, a 6-foot-1, 200 pound senior running back-linebacker, was named the Week 5 winner after leading Fred T. Foard’s fourth straight victory – a 55-34 win last Friday night over St. Stephens.
Beaver ran for nearly 200 yards and one touchdown on offense in the St. Stephens game and had eight tackles, two sacks and two blocked punts on defense.
In five games, Beaver unofficially has 460 yards rushing on 73 carries and three touchdowns, plus three catches for 71 yards and a TD and five 2-point conversion runs.
The other Fred T. Foard player to win the Golden Helmet this season is running back Corey Siemer, who won in Week 3.
The award, in its 36th year, is presented each week after area head football coaches nominate players for consideration.
Fred T. Foard’s next game is Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Patton in the opening Northwestern Foothills 2A game for both schools.
