Foard lost its first five games in its first varsity football season in 1959 and was also 0-5 in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1989, 2004, 2010 and 2013 … The Tigers’ only 5-0 start came in 1981 (Mount Heritage, West Wilkes, A.C. Reynolds, Bessemer City, Bunker Hill) and they then beat West Lincoln before falling to Maiden in Game 7 that year.

LINCOLNTON – West Lincoln High kept its record unblemished and continued a tough start for Fred T. Foard on Friday night.

The Rebels scored 28 points in the second quarter and drilled the visiting Tigers 42-10 to go to 3-0 and drop the Tigers to 0-4.

Jessie Hatcher had five receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns for West Lincoln, catching throws of 40 and 27 yards from quarterback Seth Willis after Foard gained an early 3-0 lead.

Hatcher also ran for a TD for the Rebels, who have outscored opponents 143-17.

West Lincoln has won three straight over Foard and four of the last six games in the series.

The Tigers ran for 308 yards, led by quarterback Jack Colosimo’s 132 yards on 12 carries and 116 on 15 carries, but it was no enough.

Xander Pendergrass added two rushing TDs and Cannon Bridges return a fumble for a TD for West Lincoln, which picked up career win No. 44 for head coach Tom Sain (44-53, ninth season).

Foard, now 12-16 under head coach Derrick Minor, is 0-4 for the 12th time in its 61-year history of varsity football.

The Rebels seek a 4-0 start on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. when they play East Burke at West Lincoln. West Lincoln’s South Fork 2A opener is Sept. 21 at North Lincoln.

Foard, coming off a 9-4 record last season, will be at home on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. to play St. Stephens. The Tigers’ opener in the Northwestern Foothills 2A is Sept. 21 against Patton on homecoming night.

Notes

The Tigers have scored only 39 points in their four games … Foard has lost five straight games, having been eliminated by Mount Pleasant in the second round of the state playoffs to end the 2017 season .. Foard was 3-1 after four games last season … The last time Foard was 0-4, in 2013, it finished 0-11.
