LENOIR – West Caldwell High’s girls will play their first game of the season next week in a holiday basketball tournament at West Caldwell.

Because of injuries, the Warriors have not had enough varsity players to play any of the seven games the West Caldwell boys (7-0) have played this season.

West Caldwell athletic director Stephen McMasters said via email the Warriors expect to have two girls’ players soon receive medical clearance.

McMasters said West Caldwell’s girls will then play the rest of the games on their original schedule that includes 14 games in the Northwestern Foothills 2A.

The Warriors, coached by Brad Mangum, will play their first game on Dec. 27, facing Piedmont Community Charter in a first-round game of the West Caldwell Christmas Tournament at 3:30 p.m.
