SOUTH FORK 2A ROUNDUP: Maiden wins again, stays game up on Bandys in baseball

Newton-Conover rolls in softball, sits atop league at 6-0

Austin Hoyle went 3-for-3 and Bain Sipe got the final two outs and earned a save as Maiden High nipped North Lincoln 6-4 on Friday night on the road to stay atop the South Fork 2A baseball standings.

Maiden (6-2, 6-0) — coming off a 1-run non-conference loss at unbeaten South Caldwell – got RBIs by Hoyle and Drew Huffman and Russ Fowler went 1-for-3, walked and scored two runs in a win over the d.ending conference champions.

Jacob Cauble pitched 1 1-3 innings and gained a win for the Blue Devils, who have not yet played a home game while waiting for their water-damaged outfield to be repaired.

Matt Heavner went 2-for-4 to spark the Knights (5-4, 3-3), who share fourth place with East Lincoln.

Maiden plays a conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at East Lincoln while North Lincoln will be at home for a league game at 7 p.m. against Newton-Conover.

Bandys 5, East Lincoln 0

The Trojans (7-1, 5-1) ran their win streak to four games and stayed alone in second place in the conference with their fourth shutout victory of the season.

Cy Spencer pitched six innings, giving up six hits, walking none and striking out seven as Bandys improved to 5-1 at home.

The Trojans scored three runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth inning, finishing with six hits and leaving 11 men on base.

Elec Yount went 2-for-4 for Bandys and Sal Ferraro and Noah Caldwell each drove in a run.

East Lincoln (4-4, 3-3) had six hits and made seven errors with Josh Stephens taking a loss. Stephens threw 2 2-3 innings, allowing three hits, three runs (none earned) with no walks and two strikeouts.

Bandys goes to West Lincoln for a conference game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and the Mustangs will be at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m., playing Maiden.

Lake Norman Charter 8, Newton-Conover 2

Max Doherty went 3-for-5 with a triple and drove in a run and Peter Alperi kept the Red Devils (0-9, 0-6) at bay as the Knights (5-5, 2-4) won a league game in Newton.

Anthony Tascione tripled and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Alperi added two hits and Jared Ryan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Lake Norman Charter, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Alepri worked five innings, allowing four hits, two runs (one earned) and he walked one and struck out one.

Lake Norman Charter broke a 2-all tie with a run in the fifth inning and scored three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

The Knights had 11 hits.

Lake Norman Charter is at home Tuesday for a league game against Lincolnton.

Newton-Conover goes to North Lincoln on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. conference game.

West Lincoln 16, Lincolnton 1

The Rebels (7-2, 4-2) won their third straight game and hold third place in the conference after their second-highest scoring game of the year.

West Lincoln had eight runs in the first inning and was ahead 14-0 in the top of the third inning.

The Rebels came in off one-run wins over Newton-Conover and Cherryville.

West Lincoln plays a key league game at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m., playing Bandys. The Rebels are a half-game behind the second-place Trojans.

Lincolnton goes to Lake Norman Charter for a league game on Tuesday.

GIRLS SOFTBALL

Newton-Conover 10, Lake Norman Charter 0, 5 inn.

First-place Newton-Conover had 15 hits and scored five runs in the first inning and three in the second inning en route to a home league win to stay atop the South Fork 2A standings.

The Red Devils, 6-0 in conference games, got a 4-for-4 game by Georgia Ingle and four RBIs. Maddie Carpenter added three hits and Emilie Murphy and Grace Loftin each had two hits with Loftin driving in two runs.

Winning pitcher Desti Vines went five innings, allowing three hits and striking out three.

Losing pitcher Kristy Seifert gave up 12 hits, 10 runs (four earned) with two walks and five strikeouts in five innings for the Knights, 0-6 in conference games.

The Red Devils face North Lincoln on the road in a league game Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Lake Norman Charter is at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m., facing Lincolnton in a conference game.

North Lincoln 4, Maiden 3

The Knights won a home conference game, with all of the runs by both teams scored in the seventh inning.

No other game details were available.

Maiden is 4-2 in conference games and tied with East Lincoln for third place — both are a game back of second-place North Lincoln, which trails Newton-Conover by one game.

The Blue Devils play a conference game at East Lincoln on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when North Lincoln is at home for a 5 p.m. league game against Newton-Conover.

East Lincoln 9, Bandys 7

Katie Hogue, Katelynn Crowe and Haley Erwin each had two hits, leading the Mustangs to a road conference victory.

The Mustangs, 4-2 in the league, had 13 hits and survived making four errors.

Hogue tripled and had two RBIs, and Crowe doubled and homered and had four RBIs for East Lincoln.

Riley Fox and Jada Spake each went 3-for-4 for Bandys, Kaityln Britton had two hits, Annie Andrews drove in two runs and had two hits, and Ashytn Hopson drove in three runs.

Payton Baker went five innings to gain a win for East Lincoln. She gave up eight hits, four runs (three earned), walked none and struck out one.

East Lincoln scored four runs in the third inning to lead 4-1 and three in the fourth to go up 7-1.

Bandys scored three runs in the fourth, closing within 7-4.

After the Mustangs added two runs, the Trojans scored three in the sixth inning to make it 9-7.

Bandys fell to 2-4 in conference games.

East Lincoln plays Maiden at East Lincoln in a league game on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and Bandys faces West Lincoln on the road on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

West Lincoln 15, Lincolnton 2, 6 inn.

Kinsley Gilmore had two hits and drove in five runs and Sydney Burgin and Samantha Wilson added two RBIs each as the Rebels rolled to a road victory.

West Lincoln, 3-3 in conference games, led 3-2 through one inning and scored five runs in the second inning and six in the sixth inning.

The Rebels finished with 14 hits and the Wolves, who scored both of their runs in the first inning, were limited to four.

Katie Willis gained a win for West Lincoln, going four innings. She gave up one earned run walked one and struck out one.

Alexis Shires took the loss for Lincolnton, 0-6 in league games, after giving up 14 hits, 15 runs (two earned), walking three and striking out three.

West Lincoln is at home Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a conference game against Bandys.

Lincolnton has a home non-conference game on Monday at 5 p.m. against Forestview.

GIRLS SOCCER

Fred T. Foard 4, North Lincoln 0

The Tigers rode three goals by Abby Walker to a non-league home win with Anna Schmidt adding one goal for Foard.

Walker, Katherine Ellis, Hannah Cummings and Cameron Ekonomom had assists for the Tigers, who had edges in shots (21-4), shots on goal (14-3) and corner kicks (5-2).

Foard plays Alexander Central in a non-conference match at Foard on Monday at 6:30 p.m., while the Knights are at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m., playing Newton-Conover in a South Fork 2A match.

Maiden 1, North Lincoln 0, 2 OTs (Thursday)

Brittny Cabalecta scored in the second overtime – off a corner kick by Pa Chia Khang with 23 seconds left – as the Blue Devils won a South Fork 2A match at home.

Marley Mingus had 14 saves in a 90-minute shutout for Maiden, 3-1-0 in the league and tied for second place with East Lincoln and Newton-Conover.

Maiden plays a non-league match at Hibriten on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Lake Norman Charter 8, Newton-Conover 0 (Thursday)

The visiting Knights led 3-0 at the half en route to a conference win in Newton.

First-half goals were by Kasey Hahn, Ayden Yates and Olivia Haraldsson and Yates, Haraldsson and Ally Smith had assist.

Up 4-0, Yates scored on an assist by Hahn to make it 5-0 and Hahn scored for a 6-0 lead.

Reese Robinson and Yates added goals late with assists by Hahn and Araebella DeVoe.

Kaela Rasenberger had four saves for the Knights.

Lake Norman Charter 9, Lincolnton 0 (Wednesday)

Adyen Yates scored four goals and Olivia Haraldsson added two as the Knights won a conference match on the road.

Bella DeVoe, Kristen Brady and Kasey Hahn each added a goal for Lake Norman Charter.

Yates, Annie Poteat, Gabby Soos, Hahn and DeVoe each had an assist for the Knights.

Kaele Rasenberger made three saves for Lake Norman Charter.

BOYS LACROSSE

Lake Norman Charter 13, Community School of Davidson 6

The Knights (5-3) won their fifth match of the season behind a five-goal match by Brandon Webster at Lake Norman Charter.

Lake Norman Charter’s next match is Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Hough.
