Hibriten wins in baseball, moves into tie for first with Foard

Draughn High wiped out a five-run deficit with two big innings on Friday, beating visiting Hibriten 12-9 in Northwestern Foothills 2A softball.

Hibriten led 8-3 through four innings, and the Wildcats (3-1 in the league) scored four runs in the fifth inning to pull within 8-7.

After the Panthers added a run, Draughn scored five runs in the sixth inning to win and drop Hibriten to 3-2 in the conference.

Peyton Boggs had a hit and drove in three runs, Zoe Waters had two hits and three RBIs, Maggie Smith added two hits and Malea Prestwood hit a home run for Hibriten.

Smith took the loss, going 1 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, five runs (all earned), walking three and striking out one.

Draughn plays a conference game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Fred T. Foard while Hibriten goes to Ashe County for a non-league game on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

West Iredell 4, Patton 3, 8 inn.

The Warriors collected 12 hits to win a league game at home, improving to 2-3 in the conference.

Kaylee Duncan and Maddie Morrow each had two hits and an RBI, Gracyn Millsaps drove in two runs and winning pitcher Madison Dyson added two hits for West Iredell.

Dyson threw eight innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) with one walk and 13 strikeouts.

Patton had five hits and Marissa Totty drove in two runs.

Bridget Patrick took a loss after pitching 4 1/3 innings. She gave up six hits, two runs (one earned), walked none and struck out one.

West Iredell faces league-leading Bunker Hill on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Claremont, and Patton plays a non-conference game at home against Watauga on Wednesday.

East Burke 13, Burns 12 (Thursday)

Riley Haas went 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in four runs as the Cavs won a non-league game on the road.

Graleigh Hildebran hit two home runs and had three RBIs and Allie Cook went 4-for-5 and had the game-winning RBI for East Burke.

Lexi Seagle was the winning pitcher for the Cavs.

East Burke plays a conference game at Hibriten (6 p.m.) on Tuesday.

BASEBALL

Patton 3, West Iredell 0

Peyton Smith pitched a complete game, allowing two hits, as the Panthers (4-5, 3-3) won at West Iredell.

Matthew Byrd had two of Patton’s five hits and he and Weston Fleming each had an RBI and Nathan Kirk scored twice.

Smith worked seven innings and walked one and struck out nine.

Patton plays a non-league game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Freedom.

West Iredell (4-7, 2-3) goes to Bunker Hill for a conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Hibriten 12, Draughn 2

The visiting Panthers (7-3, 4-1) moved into a tie for first place with Fred T. Foard with a victory that included scoring five runs in the second inning and three in the third inning.

Draughn (2-8, 2-3) had only two hits, one by Mason Mozeley and one by Colton Singleton.

Braxton Cox took a loss after going three innings. He gave up five hits, eight runs (seven earned) with two walks and one strikeout.

Hibriten is at home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., facing East Burke in a league game, and Draughn goes to Fred T. Foard on Tuesday (7 p.m.) for a conference game.

Bunker Hill 16, East Burke 1

The Bears (5-3, 3-2) ran their win streak to four games with a conference win at Shuey Field in Morganton.

Thaxton Isenhour had two hits and three RBIs, Mason Sigmon drove in two runs and Seth Pennington added two RBIs as Bunker Hill scored a season-high 16 runs.

The Bears scored two runs in the first inning, four in the second inning and five in the third and fourth innings to reach double-figure runs for the second time in three games.

Seth Moore pitched five innings, giving up two hits and striking out five, for Bunker Hill.

Austin Teague, Jake Bevins and Ryan Isbell each had one hit for the Cavs, who had three.

Cooper Greene took a loss in relief of Ben Elkins, going two innings (five hits, eight runs but just two earned) with a walk and a strikeout. Elkins went three innings, allowing five hits, eight runs (two earned) with four walks and a strikeout.

East Burke (1-8, 0-5) travels to play a league game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Hibriten while Bunker Hill is at home (7 p.m.) on Tuesday against West Iredell.

East Burke 8, Freedom 3 (Wednesday)

Emery Propst had two hits and struck out five over 2 2/3 innings, leading the Cavs to a non-conference road win.

Dalton Teague and Greene added two hits each for East Burke.

Greene got a win in relief of Propst, who earned a save after allowing no hits and striking out five.

GIRLS SOCCER

East Burke 2, Bunker Hill 0

The Cavs picked up their first conference victory, winning at home.

Brooke Arney and Jennifer Xiong each scored for East Burke, 1-2-0 in the league, and Xiong and Erin Carico had assists.

Goalkeeper Arianna Hawkins made eight saves for East Burke.
