East Lincoln High got some more gallop back in its offense on Thursday night, blowing out visiting East Gaston 49-7 behind running back Cole Barber.

The Mustangs (2-2) won their second straight game despite dealing with a series of injuries that head coach David Lubowicz told The Gaston Gazette had him playing six players out of position.

Barber scored two first-quarter touchdowns – on a pass from quarterback Chase Jones and on an 11-yard run – to get East Lincoln an early lead.

Jones completed his first five throws, one to Sidney Dollar for 56 yards and a score, and he ran for two TDs.

Dollar had more than 100 receiving yards and also broke an 84-yard run for a TD after moving under center to replace Jones, The Gazette reported.

“We would like to (play them both at quarterback),” Lubowicz told The Gazette. “Right now, Chase is kind of hobbling.”

East Gaston’s only score came on a 4-yard run by Brodie Hilton, who had 62 rushing yards.

East Lincoln scored only 21 points in its first two games – losses to Forestview and Ashbrook – but scored 41 points to beat North Gaston (41-22) in its third game.

The Mustangs, evening their record under Lubowicz at 8-8, starts South Fork 2A play on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Norman Charter.

West Lincoln 48, East Burke 0

The Rebels continued hot, gaining a 4-0 start by overwhelming the visiting Cavs on Thursday night.

Running back Nakathon Phansook scored three rushing TDs and Brendon Ikard intercepted three passes to lead West Lincoln’s defense.

Phansook ran for more than 170 yards as West Lincoln gained its first 4-0 start since 2013.

Quarterback Seth Willis threw for a TD and Ikard ran one of his picks back 34 yards for a TD.

Unofficially, Phansook ran for 1,421 yards and 12 TDs a year ago for the Rebels.

West Lincoln opens South Fork 2A play on Friday night at 7:30, facing North Lincoln on the road.

East Burke (1-4), which won its opener 42-0 over West Caldwell, has an open date Friday. The Cavs meet West Iredell on the road on Sept. 28 to open their Northwestern Foothills 2A schedule.

North Lincoln 20, Bessemer City 6

The Knights (2-2) scored all of their points over the final 12 minutes to beat the visiting Yellow Jackets on Thursday night to gain head coach Nick Bazzle his 131st career win.

Running back Clayton Cribb cleared 100 rushing yards and scored TDs to lead North Lincoln’s victory.

The Knights’ defense forced five turnovers.

Cribb broke a 6-all tie and put North Lincoln ahead for good with a 1-yard TD run with about 6 ½ minutes left to play. He also had a fourth-quarter TD run.

Running back Jarkevious Love ran for 90 yards to lead Bessemer City (1-3).

The Knights recovered fumbles on three of the Yellow Jackets’ final four possessions.

The Gaston Gazette reported North Lincoln quarterback Landon Bear left the game in the third quarter with an injury and did not return.

North Lincoln starts its South Fork 2A schedule on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against West Lincoln.
