Peter Alperi’s single in the seventh inning finished a Lake Norman Charter High rally on Wednesday in an 8-7 South Fork 2A baseball victory over Newton-Conover at the Huntersville Athletic Park.

Alperi delivered after Chris Torres led off the seventh inning by being hit by a pitch and he moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt.

Max Doherty had two hits – one a triple – and drove in two runs for Lake Norman Charter, and Jack Monti doubled twice and scored two runs.

The Knights (7-8, 4-6) snapped a three-game losing streak by winning and are in sixth place in the conference, a half-game back of East Lincoln.

The Red Devils (1-13, 1-8) are in last place after losing in a one-run game for the second time this season.

Newton-Conover came in after having beaten East Lincoln 9-6 on the road Tuesday to snap an 11-game losing streak in South Fork 2A games.

Lake Norman Charter beat Newton-Conover 8-2 in Newton in their first meeting this season.

The Knights play a conference game at East Lincoln on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (moved up from Friday).

The Red Devils are at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. for a league game, facing Lincolnton, and that game was also moved up from Friday because of a forecast for rain.

Cherryville 2, West Lincoln 1

The visiting Ironmen stopped West Lincoln’s win streak at two games with a one-run victory in a non-conference game.

No game details were available.

The Rebels (10-4, 7-2) have won six of their last eight games – with both losses by one run —and they’re in second place in the South Fork 2A, a game behind Maiden and a game in front of Bandys and North Lincoln.

West Lincoln plays at North Lincoln on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a conference game moved up from Friday because of a forecast for rain on Friday.

Lincoln Charter 3, Bandys 2

The visiting Trojans (8-4) were held hitless by four pitchers in a non-conference loss.

Ryan Restino, Hunter Harritan, Nick Womack and freshman Austin Williams held Bandys without a hit but the Trojans got two runs off Williams, who pitched 1 2/3 innings, after trailing 2-0.

Lincoln Charter (13-1) picked up its 10 straight victory behind two hits by Dylan Dodson and Harritan and two RBIs by Spencer Bright and one by Mitch Picton.

Restino threw four innings, walking one and striking out four, to gain a win.

Jacob Ellis and Ivan Huffman each scored a run for the Trojans, and Elec Yount and Ryan Lyda had an RBI each.

Nick Andrews took the loss for Bandys, now 1-1 in one-run games this season, after going 4 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits, three runs (all earned), walked one and struck out three.

The Trojans play at league-leading Maiden on Thursday at 7 p.m., a game moved up from Friday because of a forecast for rain.

West Lincoln 3, Lake Norman Charter 1 (Tuesday)

Chris Moxley threw a complete game three-hitter as the Rebels won at Huntersville Athletic Park in a conference game.

Moxley gave up a run (earned), walked three and struck out nine.

West Lincoln had seven hits, two by Brett Mason and two by Dylan Burkey and Mason, Burkey and Moxley each drove in a run for the Rebels.

Drew Gugino had two hits and Montri had the other for the Knights.

Jared Ryan took a loss, pitching six innings. He gave up seven hits, three runs (all earned) with three walks and five strikeouts.

Maiden 8, Lincolnton 2 (Tuesday)

Avery Scott struck out nine over four innings, limiting the visiting Wolves to four hits, as Maiden (8-3, 8-1) won to remain atop the conference standings.

Grayson Brown had two hits, one a double, and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils. Carlos Reynoso had two doubles and scored twice and Bain Sipe had two hits and drove in two runs for Maiden, 2-0 at home this season.

The Blue Devils played their first nine games on the road this season as repairs were being made to water problems in the outfield of the on-campus field.

Gavin Queen took the loss for the Wolves (1-10, 1-8), who have lost seven straight games.

Maiden plays at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Bandys, a league game moved up from Friday by a forecast for rain.

West Lincoln also plays on Thursday for the same reason, going to North Lincoln (7 p.m.) for a league game.

Newton-Conover 9, East Lincoln 6 (Tuesday)

The Red Devils snapped an 11-game losing streak in league games that dated back to last season, stunning the Mustangs at East Lincoln.

Newton-Conover got to reliever Derek Martin for four hits, six runs (one earned) over 2 2/3 innings to win.

Graham Smiley, Martin and Gabe Duncan each had two hits for East Lincoln and Duncan and Martin each drove in two runs.

East Lincoln faces Lake Norman Charter in a conference game at East Lincoln on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

BOYS GOLF

Lake Norman Charter cruises

League-leading Lake Norman Charter won another conference match, this time at Cowans Ford by 30 strokes over West Lincoln behind a 70 by Ian Johnson.

The Knights finished at 293 – with Carter Busse shooting a 72 – and West Lincoln shot 323, led by Bauer Galloway’s 74.

Lake Norman Charter 10, West Lincoln 0 (Tuesday)

The Knights dominated a conference match over the visiting Rebels that ended after 40 minutes of play.

Ayden Yates had three goals and an assist, Lauren Jones scored twice and Olivia Haraldsoon had a goal and two assists for Lake Norman Charter.

The Knights led 6-0 when they got goals by Rachel Kneubuehl and Brianna Hatch, with Jones scoring the final two goals on assists by Karel Rasenberger.

West Lincoln had no shots on goal.

Lake Norman Charter, 8-0-0 in conference play and in first place, plays at second-place East Lincoln on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

West Lincoln is 0-7-0 in the league and goes to North Lincoln for a conference match on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Maiden 3, Lincolnton 1, PKs (Tuesday)

Shelby Pettit, Rachel Morris and Gracie Arrowood had a penalty kick each as the Blue Devils won a conference match at home after a 3-all tie in regulation.

Mai Chi Khang had Maiden’s first goal off a rebound and Pettit scored on a direct kick.

Kassi Kiziah had the other goal for the Blue Devils, who got 13 saves by Marley Mingus with thre of those coming in the penalty shootout.

Maiden is 4-3-0 in the South Fork 2A and in fourth place while the Wolves are 3-5-0 and in fifth place.

The Blue Devils battle Bandys in a league match at Maiden at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Lincolnton plays a conference match at Newton-Conover on Thursday at 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL

West Lincoln 22,

Lake Norman Charter 10, 5 inn. (Tuesday)

The Rebels broke a 4-all tie with three runs in the fourth inning before scoring 15 runs in the next inning en route to a conference win on the road.

West Lincoln had 17 hits and Lake Norman Charter had 13, and the Knights made eight errors.

Alyson Eaker had two hits and drove in three runs for the Rebels, who also had Emma Bumgarner with three hits and two RBIs, Morgan Chapman with two hits, Etta Godfrey with two his and two RBI and Samantha Wilson, Katie Willis and Gracie Ledford each driving in two runs.

The Rebels finished with eight doubles and a triple as Willis gained a win after pitching 4 2/3 innings. She gave up seven hits, four runs (three earned) with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Jenna Carter went 3-for-3 for Lake Norman Charter, hitting a home run and driving in four runs, and Rosie Meli and losing pitcher Hala Soliman each had two hits.

Soliman, a freshman making her prep pitching debut, threw five innings. She gave up 18 hits, 21 runs (12 earned) with five walks and three strikeouts.

Maiden 18, Lincolnton 0 (Tuesday)

Bailey Crafton had two hits, drove in four runs and scored three times as Maiden rolled to a conference win at home.

Jaiden Kiser added two hits, two runs and an RBI and Lexie Michael had two hits and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils, 6-3 in the league and in fourth place.

Addyson Ikard was the winning pitcher for Maiden and Rachael Cooke pitched three innings in relief of Ikard.

Maiden entertains Bandys on Thursday at 5 p.m. in a league game while the Wolves, 0-9 in the conference, have a non-league game at Cherryville on Thursday at 6 p.m.

BOYS LACROSSE

Lake Norman Charter 20, South Iredell 3 (Tuesday)

The Knights (6-4) had four players – Brandon Webster, Peyton Turner, Zach Tubbs and Micah Stechmiller – with three goals each in victory at South Iredell.

Lake Norman Charter’s next match is Tuesday at Lake Norman at 7 p.m.
