MAIDEN – The new South Fork Athletic 2A Conference, which begins playing in August, announced Tuesday the admission cost for all sports – varsity and junior varsity – will be $6.

In a conference meeting of athletic directors at the Brookwood Café and Catering in Maiden, league officials also said football games in the conference will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

Conference teams will play a 14-game schedule – a home and away schedule – in most team sports.

The eight-team conference is Bandys, East Lincoln, Lake Norman Charter, Lincolnton, Maiden, Newton-Conover, North Lincoln and West Lincoln.

In statewide realignment, six schools currently in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A will welcome North Lincoln and Lake Norman Charter into a new league.

North Lincoln is moving from 3A to 2A and leaving the North Piedmont 3A-4A, while Lake Norman Charter is now 2A and playing in the Big South 2A/3A.

Butch Parker — a retired teacher, coach and assistant athletic director at Maiden — is the South Fork 2A’s executive secretary.

The conference also indicated:

  • These league championships will be played this school year at Maiden – volleyball (semifinals, finals), girls’ tennis, wrestling, softball and boys’ tennis.
  • The basketball tournament will be played at Catawba Valley Community College (semifinals, finals).
  • The baseball tournament will be played at the Legions Fairground Field in Newton.
  • The cross country championships are scheduled at Southside Park in Newton.
  • North Lincoln will play host to the track and field championships.
