Maiden High goes for its fifth straight win and 15th in 16 matches on Monday night when it opens the South Fork 2A volleyball tournament with a first-round home match.
The Blue Devils (19-4, 13-1) face eighth-seeded Lincolnton (5-15, 1-13) at 6 p.m., trying to advance to Tuesday night’s semifinal matches at Lake Norman Charter.
The other first-round matches, also at 6 p.m. on Monday, are No. 5 North Lincoln 910-10, 7-7) at No. 4 Bandys (11-9, 8-6), No. 7 West Lincoln (4-18, 1-13) at No. 2 Lake Norman Charter (14-6, 11-3) and No. 6 Newton-Conover (7-12, 4-10) at No. 3 East Lincoln (15-3, 11-3).
East Lincoln and Lake Norman Charter tied for second place behind Maiden with the Knights getting the No. 2 seed via their 3-2 win at home over Maiden, which swept Newton-Conover.
On Tuesday, the semifinals start at 5 p.m. at Lake Norman Charter with the No. 2-No. 7 winner facing the No. 6-No. 3 winner, followed by the No. 8-No. 1 winner vs. the No. 5-No. 4 winner.
The championship match is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lake Norman Charter.
