HUNTERSVILLE — Led by Abbey Smith’s 17 kills and 10 assists, Maiden High toppled Lake Norman Charter 3-1 on Wednesday night to win the South Fork 2A volleyball tournament title.
The top-seeded Blue Devils (22-4) won 16-25, 25-16 25-18, 25-20 over the No. 2 seeded Knights (16-7) to add a tournament title to their regular season championship.
Maiden finished 13-1 to win the regular season with East Lincoln and Lake Norman Charter sharing second place (11-3 each).
The Blue Devils and Knights split their regular season matches, each winning at home.
The tournament title match was played at Lake Norman Charter because it was the league’s predetermined site for the final.
On Wednesday night, Sarah Wicker added 11 kills and a block, Isabella Abernathy had eight kills and Anna White provided seven kills and a block for Maiden.
Natalie Lail led the Blue Devils in digs with 33 while Adison Ford and Abby Gantt shared the lead in assists with 21 each.
Maiden will have the highest seed among South Fork 2A teams that qualify for the state 2A playoffs.
In voting by conference head coaches, Gabby Leach of East Lincoln was named South Fork 2A Player of the Year and the Coach of the Year award went to Marsha Davis of Maiden.
