ALL-NORTHWESTERN 3A-4A: Spartans lead selections in baseball, girls soccer

After winning a regular season baseball title and sharing the girls’ soccer title, South Caldwell High gained five of the six awards in those sports in All-Northwestern 3A-4A voting.

The conference’s head coaches voted Owen Foxx of the Spartans the Player of the Year, teammate Trent Black the Pitcher of the Year and South Caldwell head coach Jeff Parham as Coach of the Year.

South Caldwell’s girls tied Hickory and Watauga for the league’s regular season soccer title, and the league’s Player of the Year is the Spartans’ Maggie Hall, Defensive Player of the Year is Mackenzie Starnes of South Caldwell and Elliott Bridges of the Spartans was named Coach of the Year.

The Offensive Player of the Year went to Ayden Vaughan of Hickory.

South Caldwell, which finished 13-1 in the league and two games in front of second-place Alexander Central, led the All-Northwestern 3A-4A baseball picks with 10.

The Spartans had 10 all-league soccer players, Hickory had nine and Watauga had eight after each of those teams went 12-2-0 in conference play.
