ALL-NORTHWESTERN 3A-4A SOFTBALL: South Caldwell has top pitcher, head coach

South Caldwell High, the state’s West 4A softball champion, won two of the three major awards in Northwestern 3A-4A softball for this season.

In a vote of league head coaches, pitcher Anna King of the Spartans won Pitcher of the Year and Casey Justice, a former star athlete at South Caldwell, was named Coach of the Year.

South Caldwell (29-3) won the West 4A title series and fell two games to one to Fayetteville Britt last weekend in a best-of-3 state championship series at N.C. State.

Myra Twitty, who hit .621 for fifth-place Freedom, was selected as the conference’s Player of the Year.

South Caldwell led the all-league picks with eight and Alexander Central (28-5), which won a state 3A title last weekend in Greensboro by sweeping Cleveland, had seven selections.

St. Stephens: Hanna Triplett

S. Caldwell: Reagan Weisner, Ciara Hanson, Cydney Combs, Jasmine Hall, Anna King, Jenna Pittman, Graclyn Green, Addison Blaire.

Watauga: Sam Reese, Julia Parsons

W. Caldwell: Haley Price, Annie Bean, Lacy Baker

  1. good afternoon Chris it is Mike Owens the ol Granite Falls High guy Can you please tell me who the nominating committee persons are for the Caldwell County Sports Hall of Fame are . I have looked and looked for it and cant find it. Hope you and yours are well , we go way back to when you covered our high school football in the mid 70s for the HDR.       Mike, I would assume nominations would be taken annually from the public. As far as who is on the selection committee that would trim the field and make the selections, I wouldn’t know who they are. I imagine if they are like some of the ones I have been on at the state level through the years, they don’t make those names public. Sorry that I can’t be of more help. You bring back good memories of the old GFHS days. I actually have the game program from the final GFHS varsity football game. Thanks for writing to me.
