Bears snap Trojans’ 10-game home win streak with 12-9 victory

Bunker Hill High, playing as an underdog, bit Bandys on Friday night by stunning the Trojans 12-9 in Butler Stadium.
The win, the third for Patrick Clark as head coach of the Bears (1-3), snapped Bandys’ 10-game win home streak.
It was the first Bunker Hill win at Randy Lowman Field and only the fifth victory in 20 games there since 1980.
The Bears had an early 6-0 lead before Bandys (3-1) took a 7-6 lead on a 10-yard scoring run by Chris Culliver and PAT by Jesse Pope. The score was set up by a pass of more than 40 yards from Parker DeHart to Parker Styborski.
The Bears went in front 12-7 on a 9-yard TD run by Kaden Robinson in the second quarter.
Bandys pulled within three points when Mason Edmondson sacked Bunker Hill quarterback Carson Elder for a safety.
The Trojans had won two straight and four of their last five against the Bears, who now trail in the all-time series 34-27-1.
The victory was the first for Bunker Hill in Butler Stadium since 2013, and Bandys had won 12 of the last 13 times the Bears had visited.
Bandys lost for only the third time in 18 games since Tom Eanes became head coach two years ago (other losses at Hickory, at Hibriten).
Draughn 61, Cherryville 0
The Wildcats (2-2) held the Ironmen (1-3) to minus-1 yard rushing on 22 carries and 37 yards overall, rolling to victory after scoring 34 points in the opening quarter at Cherryville.
Quarterback Braxton Cox completed all 11 of his passes for 191 yards and five TDs while running back Trent Corn ran six times of 111 yards and two scores.
The first score by Draughn was a 20-yard fumble return, and it was 18-0 after Cox hit Denver Treadway for 10 and 21 yards on TD passes.
Corn’s TD runs were from 35 and 57 yards, the latter helping the Wildcats lead 48-0 by halftime.
Treadway had five catches for 68 yards and Cox connected with Nick Chrisco for 96 yards on three catches, including a 43-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.
Cherryville went 2 of 23 passing and the Ironmen threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles.
West Lincoln 41, Fred T. Foard 7
Cannon Bridges led the visiting Rebels on both sides of the ball as they remained unbeaten by routing Fred T. Foard, winning the Battle of Hog Hill for the fourth time in five seasons.
Bridges ran 27 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns and added 11 tackles – two for lost yardage – and three sacks as West Lincoln improved to 3-0 in Darren Ponder’s first season as head coach.
Xander Pendergrass provided 10 carries for 56 yards and two scores and Mason Huitt ran for 49 yards on five carries and a score for West Lincoln.
Chandler Carpenter had six tackles (one for lost yardage) and one sack, Pendergrass had six tackles and Huitt made four tackles and had an interception for the Rebels.
Foard (0-4) was shutout a week after scoring 52 points at home against Draughn but falling 55-52.
Statesville 47, West Iredell 32
The Greyhounds (4-0) won at home with running back Chavion Smih running for more than 160 yards on just 11 carries.
West Iredell (1-2), which led 5-0 early, scored the game’s final 20 points.
Smith ran for TDs on plays of 3, 15 and 53 yards and Calyon Imes added TD runs of 15 and 76 yards for the Greyhounds.
The Warriors trailed 47-12 before they scored three times in the final 7 ½ minutes – on a run by Emannuel Long, a TD pass and two-point conversion by quarterback Eli Kitchens and Zach Carr and Kitchens hitting Carr for a score in the final two minutes.
Hibriten, West Caldwell resume games on Monday
Hibriten’s home game against South Caldwell was halted at halftime by rain and will resume on Monday night with the Panthers in front 14-0.
Hibriten (2-1) is vyng for its fourth straight win in the series and to tie it all-time at 21-21-1.
The Spartans are 2-1 and coming off a 10-point home loss to Bandys.
- West Caldwell will complete its home game against Ashe County on Monday at 6:30 p.m., trailing 12-0.
The game was halted by rain.
Patton game now Monday
Freedom’s game at Patton was postponed by rain and reset for Monday at 7 p.m.
Freedom has won 11 of the 12 match-ups, including two straight, and they are 5-0 at Patton.
A win would move Freedom head coach Luke Little, in his second year with the Patriots, to 99 career wins.
