CROSS COUNTRY: Foard’s Trimm, Patton’s Clay win Northwestern Foothills 2A championships

They each led their team to a title at River Bend Park on Saturday

CONOVER — Fred T. Foard High’s boys and Patton’s girls won Northwestern Foothills 2A cross country championships on Saturday at River Bend Park.

Foard’s boys, led by a title run of 17 minutes, 53.8 seconds by Ben Trimm, had a score of 41 to finish ahead of Patton.

Patton’s Madison Clay won the girls’ title in 20:42.52, finishing ahead of Foard’s Karina Coulter. The Panthers had a score of 39 to finish ahead of East Burke.

The top four boys’ teams and the top three girls’ teams advance to the state regionals, along with individuals with top 12 finishes who are not on teams advancing to the regionals.

Patton’s girls were helped by an eighth-place finish by Melia Carswell while Foard also had Katie Wilkinson and Rose Hull finish in the top 10.

Foard had two other boys in the top 10 besides Trimm – Kobus Wilkinson was fifth and Mario Santos-Morales was eight.

GIRLS TEAM SCORES: 1. Patton 39 2. East Burke 47; 3. Fred T. Foard 63; 4. Bunker Hill 101; 5. Hibriten 106.

BOYS TEAM SCORES: 1. Fred T. Foard 41; 2. Patton 61; 3. Bunker Hill 87; 4. E. Burke 100; 5. Hibriten 114, Draughn 114; 7. W. Iredell 171.
