LINCOLNTON – North Lincoln High swept the track and field championships on Tuesday in the South Fork 2A on its own track.
The Knights’ boys had 177 ½ points, sparked by Jake Soorus, to edge second-place Bandys (150 ½), while the North Lincoln girls scored 151 points to beat Lake Norman Charter by one point.
Sorrus won the discus at 155 feet, 7 inches and was second in the shot put and the long jump for North Lincoln.
Bandys had three multiple boys’ winners, led by Ja’Tay Culliver with two wins – in the 100 and 200 and legs on winning 400 and 800 relay teams.
Also for the Trojans, Isaiah Talbert won the triple jump and the long jump and ran a leg on a winning 400 relay team, and Chase Clanton added wins in both hurdles and ran a leg on a winning 800 relay team.
In the girls’ meet, Kayla Smith of Lincolnton won the long jump, 100 and 200 and her teammates, Emily Shain, won the shot and discus.
Andie Hubbard of Bandys won twice, in the 100 hurdles and in the pole vault, and Lake Norman Charter’s Izzy Evely won the 1,600 and 3,200 races.
The individual event winners for the North Lincoln girls were Olivia Correra in the triple jump, and Chander McCaslin in the 800.
