CHAPEL HILL – Fred T Foard, Lake Norman Charter and Watauga have won Wachovia Conference Cups from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) as the top athletic programs in their conferences for 2017-2018.
Foard won the Northwestern Foothills 2A title, finishing ahead of Patton, after adding spring conference championships in boys’ tennis and softball, finishing second in girls’ soccer and baseball and finishing third in both track and field races.
Lake Norman Charter wrapped up the South Fork 2A crown – nipping North Lincoln by two points – via winning league titles in boys’ golf and girls’ soccer.
Watauga captured the Northwestern 3A-4A title – with Alexander Central in second – after winning league titles in girls’ and boys’ track and field and in boys’ tennis.
The NCHSAA recognizes one athletic program each year as the tops in its conference. Each league sets up its own scoring method.
