CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) informed the state’s high schools via memo on Monday that it will change dates for some fall sports championships because of the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
The changes include adding a week to the high school football regular season, which was scheduled to end on Nov. 2 with the state playoffs starting on Nov. 9.
In the change, approved by the NCHSAA board of directors, the football regular season is extended by one week – with final regular season games on Nov. 9 – and the state playoffs will begin on Nov. 16.
The memo indicated there will be changes in the state football title game dates – to Dec. 14-15 – but no decision was announced on where those games, usually at North Carolina, Duke, N.C. State and Wake Forest, will be played.
The memo from Que Tucker, commissioner of the NCHSAA:
Principals and Athletic Directors,
