Catawba County’s stars played key roles on Tuesday for the Norfolk (Va.) Tides, who opened a six-game series in Durham with a 6-5 victory in Triple-A baseball.
Zach Jarrett, a former Hickory High star, started in centerfield for the Tides and collected two hits and scored a run batting fifth in the batting order.
Hunter Harvey, a former Bandys High star assigned to the Tides by the Baltimore Orioles on a rehab assignment, picked up a win after throwing 1 2/3 innings in relief. He allowed two hits, struck out two and walked none.
Harvey faced seven batters, throwing strikes on 18 of his 30 pitches, and he threw a wild pitch.
How long Harvey is assigned to Norfolk is unknown. He was on the 60-day disabled list with an oblique injury and could be recalled to the major league club when the O’s make that decision.
Jarrett is hitting .311 this season with one home run and eight RBIs after also spending some time in Double-A at Bowie (Md.).
The series continues on Wednesday night in Durham, where the same two teams meet through Sunday.
Games times in Durham are 6:35 p.m. through Saturday and Sunday’s game is at 5:05 p.m.
