JARRETT

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett, who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte, plays outfield for the Shorebirds (27-17), who won 7-0 at Hickory on Wednesday night before a crowd of 1,001 as Jarrett hit his ninth home run of the season.

He batted third in the lineup and started in right field, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and he scored twice.

His home run was a solo shot in the ninth inning.

Jarrett has played in 41 games this season and is hitting .291 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs.

He is tied for 13th among South Atlantic League (SAL) hitters and tied for fourth in home runs (9) behind Seuly Matias of Lexington (Ky.) with 12, Casey Golden of Asheville with 11 and Chad Spanberger of Asheville with 10.

In his last 10 games, Jarrett is hitting .250 with two home runs and six RBIs.

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal, a left-handed relief pitcher for the Braves (28-17), did not pitch on Wednesday night when the Braves won 4-1 at Lexington (Ky.) before 3,103.

Deal worked two innings on Tuesday night in Rome’s 10-5 victory at Lexington (Ky.).

Deal relieved winning pitcher Bruce Zimmerman and pitched the sixth and seventh innings, giving up no hits, on runs, walking one and striking out three. He threw strikes on 19 of his 33 pitches and faced seven batters.

In his last four outings, Deal has pitched 11 innings, allowed four hits, walked four and struck out 21 while winning three games and posting an ERA of 1.63.

He has pitched in nine games this season, going 3-0 in 18 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 13 hits, four runs (all earned), walked four, hit two batters and struck out 28. His ERA is 1.96.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey did not pitch Wednesday night when Bowie, playing at home before a crowd of 2,379, beat Altoona (Pa.), 9-3.

Harvey made his seventh start of the season on Sunday in a 10-5 victory at Trenton, N.J. He did not gain a decision, pitching four innings before a crowd of 4,284.

Harvey gave up five hits, three runs (all earned), walked none and struck out six, and his ERA is at 4.61.

He did not pitch on Tuesday night when Bowie (20-23) won 8-5 at home over Altoona (Pa.) before a crowd of 2,143.

In his seven starts this season, Harvey is 1-1 and has pitched 25 1/3 innings, allowed 26 hits, 13 runs (all earned), walked seven and struck out 23.

On Sunday, he threw 44 of his 69 pitches for strikes while facing 17 batters.

If Harvey works the fifth game of the week, his next start would be Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. at Binghamton (N.Y.).
