ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Former Hickory High and Charlotte star Zach Jarrett went 1-for-5 on Monday night with a double in a 7-4 home loss against Lakewood, N.J., before 1,577.

The double was Jarrett’s 109th hit of the season, tying him for the SAL lead with Bret Boswell of Asheville (Chad Spanberger of Asheville, traded last week by Colorado to Toronto had 110).

Jarrett started in center field and batted third in the lineup in his 99th game of the season. He is hitting .288 with 20 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 54 RBIs. He’s hitting .179 with no home runs and two RBIs in his last 10 games.

Delmarva is 54-49 and 19-17 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings and in fourth place, 5 ½ games behind Lakewood.

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Greensboro nipped Rome 6-5 on Monday night in Rome before 1,518 and former Bandys High left-hander Hayden Deal did not pitch.

In his most recent outing last Thursday night, Deal didn’t get a decision in a 14-5 victory over visiting Columbia (S.C.). He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (four earned), walking one and striking out seven.

Deal is 5-1 with an ERA of 2.30 in 21 appearances this season, pitching 62 2/3 innings. He’s hit four batters, intentionally walked one and walked 11 to go with 69 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .207 against him this season.

In his last 10 outings, he’s 1-1 with an ERA of 2.58, pitching 38 1/3 innings with four walks and 34 strikeouts.

Deal is four strikeouts away from 100 in his pro career with 96 in 93 1/3 innings.

He is not listed as a probable starter for Tuesday or Wednesday in game against Greensboro, and the Braves list their Thursday starter at Greenville (S.C.) as TBD.

The Braves are 57-50 overall and 17-21 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings.

Rome won a first-half title, securing a postseason berth.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey is recoving from a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

When he twisted to avoid being struck by the ball, his right shoulder popped out of socket.

Harvey is now throwing some and is expected to pitch in a game in Florida on Aug. 4.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8).

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

Bowie (48-57 in Eastern League) was idle Monday and begins a series at Akron (Ohio) on Tuesday night.
