BASEBALL DRAFT: Dodgers take Alexander Central product in Round 14

SECAUCUS, N.J. – An Alexander Central High baseball product has been drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Josh McLain, a junior at N.C. State who has started 106 games for the Wolfpack over the past two seasons, was selected by the Dodgers on Wednesday in the 14th round and as the 430th overall pick.

McLain broke into the N.C. State lineup late in his freshman season, starting 10 games (played in 35), including three games in the Fort Worth Regional.

As a sophomore, he hit .300, starting all 56 games, and had 19 doubles, four home runs and stole 3 bases.

This season, McLain played in 61 games. He started 60 and had 21 doubles, six home runs and 31 RBIs. He added 11 stolen bases, and his .311 batting average was second-best this season for N.C. State.

An outfielder, McLain had 148 fielding chances and made only one error.

N.C. State finished 16-14 in the ACC this season and 36-25 overall.

By 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the draft was headed into the 22nd of 40 rounds. The draft is in its third and final day.
