LINCOLNTON – Lincolnton High on Tuesday night posted pictures of its new head varsity football coach and new boys’ varsity basketball coach.

The posts on the school’s Facebook page had no specific details other than photos of David Byrd, the new head football coach, and Phillip Robinson, the new varsity boys’ basketball coach.

The school did not provide local media a press release on either hire.

Byrd worked last season as an assistant coach for Lincolnton. He replaces Joe Glass, who left the Wolves to become head varsity football coach at Hickory. Lincolnton went 3-8 and 1-5 under Glass.

Robinson replaces John Cloninger, who resigned after three seasons in basketball. The Wolves were 8-6 last season in the South Fork 2A and 29-36 under Cloninger.

Byrd’s debut as head coach will be Aug. 20 at South Point, and the Wolves will play in the Catawba Valley Athletic 2A with Bandys, Bunker Hill, East Burke, Maiden, Newton-Conover, West Caldwell and West Lincoln.
