DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Emma Swearingen had three hits and drove in two runs on Thursday afternoon, leading Limestone to a 5-3 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University in an NCAA Division II Southeast Regional women’s softball tournament game.
Playing at North Georgia, the Saints beat the Bears for the third time this season and advanced to play eighth-seeded North Greenville, S.C. (36-7) on Friday at 10 a.m.
North Greenville upset top-seeded North Georgia 2-1 on Thursday,
Fifth-seeded LRU (46-12) faces top-seeded North Georgia (44-11) in an elimination game Friday at 12:30 p.m.
Limestone had a 5-1 lead before LRU third baseman Mackenzie Cates had a two-run double in the sixth inning but that’s as close as the Bears got. She drove in all three LRU runs.
Limestone’s Courtney Smith improved to 18-5 as the winning pitcher and Josie Weber gained a save.
Freshman Sydney Miller (14-8) took the loss for the Bears.
