LAWNDALE – Burns High stayed in contention to finish as high as third place in South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A baseball by beating visiting Draughn 11-8 on Friday night.
The win left the Bulldogs (9-11, 8-6) in fourth place, just ahead of Draughn (12-8, 8-7) and Kings Mountain (10-12, 8-7) with two conference playing dates to go.
Burns would need to win its last two league games – at Crest on Tuesday night and at home against R-S Central on Thursday night – to have a chance to tie Crest for third place (the Chargers are at Shelby on Thursday).
Draughn’s final SMAC 2A-3A game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home against Shelby.
