SHELBY – There’s an all-Cleveland County title game set for the Shelby Easter baseball tournament on Thursday night.
A round-robin tournament, it has Crest (10-6) playing Kings Mountain (9-9) for the championship at 7 p.m., after Burns (7-10) meets South Caldwell (13-4-1) for third place at 4 p.m. and Shelby (8-10) faces Ashbrook for fifth place at 1 p.m.
The pairings were set after Wednesday’s third day using two brackets.
Crest had 14 hits on Wednesday, beating South Caldwell 12-2 in six innings, and Burns downed Ashbrook 4-3.
Crest won the No. 1 bracket by going 2-0 with South Caldwell 1-1 and Shelby 0-2.
In the No. 2 bracket, Kings Mountain was 2-0, Burns 1-1 and Ashbrook 0-2.
Against South Caldwell, every Crest starter had at least one hit, led by three from Luke Scism. The Spartans got two hits off Riley Cheek.
