SD-7 2A SOFTBALL: Top seed West Lincoln ready to defend tourney title

West Lincoln won the SD-7 2A regular season title again and opens defense of its league tournament title on Tuesday at home against Lincolnton.

Defending champion West Lincoln High is the No. 1 seed for the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A softball tournament that begins Tuesday.

The Rebels beat rival East Lincoln on Friday to win the conference title with an 11-3 record. East Lincoln finished 10-4 and in second place.

West Lincoln faces No. 8 Lincolnton in Tuesday’s opening round with a 4:30 p.m. start. No. 2 East Lincoln opens against No. 7 Newton-Conover in a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday.

The semifinals are scheduled Thursday at Bunker Hill with the title game set for 7 p.m. on Friday at Bunker Hill.

West Lincoln won last year’s title as a top seed, beating second-seeded Bunker Hill 8-2 in the championship game.
