MAIDEN – Caden O’brien keeps shining for Maiden High.

O’brien did not pitch on Friday night when the Blue Devils beat Lincolnton 5-4 on Senior Night at Maiden, but he did drive in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. He went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Maiden’s win left it tied for second place in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A with Bunker Hill at 9-5. The Blue Devils win the tie-breaker for the No. 2 seed in next week’s league tournament because they split with league champ East Lincoln, which swept Bunker Hill.

On Tuesday, No. 7 Bandys visits No. 2 Maiden and No. 6 Lincolnton goes to No. 3 Bunker Hill in first-round tournament games.

The semifinals and finals of the SD-7 2A tournament are scheduled at the Legion Fairgrounds in Newton on Thursday and Friday.

Maiden beat Lincolnton despite making six errors. The Blue Devils had five hits and the Wolves had seven.

Jarrett Mull had a hit and RBI for Maiden, while Mauricio Lozano had two hits and an RBI, Devoshe Odum had an RBI and Mack Bowden drove in a run for the Wolves (8-11, 7-7).

Bryson Ledford threw a complete game for Maiden — seven innings, four hits and one run (earned).

Robbie Cowie took the loss for Lincolnton, going 6 1/3 innings. He gave up four hits, five runs (all earned), walked five and struck out seven.

Lincolnton ended up tied with West Lincoln for fifth place but is the No. 6 seed because it was swept by the Rebels in the regular season.
