CATAWBA – Bandys High won at home for the second time this season, pounding visiting Newton-Conover 11-1 in five innings on Friday night in Southern District 7 Athletic 2A baseball.
The Trojans finished the regular season at 6-15-1 overall and ended up seventh in the conference race at 4-10, two games up on last-place Newton-Conover (4-17, 2-12).
Bandys is the No. 7 seed for next week’s conference tournament, which begins Tuesday with first-round games, and travels to play No. 2 Maiden in the opening round.
Maiden and Bandys split in the regular season, Bandys winning 9-5 in 10 innings at Maiden and Maiden winning at home 4-0.
The Trojans’ home win was their third in the last four games, but only the second home win of the year. They defeated West Lincoln 6-5 in eight innings in late March for the other win at Bandys, and they are 2-9 at home this season.
Newton-Conover will enter the league tournament on a four-game losing streak and having one 1-5 in their last six games. The Red Devils play Tuesday at top-seeded East Lincoln.
East Lincoln swept Newton-Conover in the regular season, winning 17-4 at East Lincoln and 11-0 in five innings in Newton.
