NPC 3A-4A SOFTBALL: Lake Norman hands Alex Central first loss

TAYLORSVILLE – Lake Norman High broke a tie with a run in the sixth inning on Tuesday, nipping host Alexander Central 3-2 to shake up the girls’ softball standings in the North Piedmont 3A-4A.

The loss, leaving the Cougars at 19-1 overall and 9-1 in the conference, also pulled Mooresville (9-1) into a share of the league lead with Alexander Central, with Lake Norman (9-2) in third place and up 3 ½ games over the next closest team in the standings.

Alyssa Ingle threw a complete game for the Wildcats, going seven innings and giving up six hits, two runs (both earned). She walked none and struck out one.

Chesney Millsaps (7-1) took the loss for Alexander Central, which had beaten Lake Norman 15-9 earlier in the season at Lake Norman. She threw a complete game, allowing six hits, three runs (all earned) with four walks and four strikeouts.

Amy Meister, batting eighth in the Wildcats’ order, had two hits and an RBI with Ingle and Amber Locasto also driving in one run each for Lake Norman. Locasto hit a home run and scored two runs.

For Alexander Central, leadoff hitter Julie Gast went 2-for-4, Caroline Maltba had a hit and RBI and Kelsea Dejarnette added a hit and RBI.

Alexander Central led 1-0 until the top of the third, when Lake Norman scored once for a 1-all tie.

The Cougars went up 2-1 in the fourth with a run then the Wildcats scored a run in the fifth for a tie and another run in the sixth for the lead.

Lake Norman is scheduled to play a league game at North Iredell at 5 p.m. on Thursday, while Alexander Central will have a showdown game with Mooresville on the road on Thursday at 6 p.m.
