North Georgia and Armstrong (Ga.) State advanced in NCAA Division II women’s softball regionals by winning on Sunday.
North Georgia won the Southeast No. 1 regional as a top seed, downing Limestone 5-3 in eight innings.
Armstrong State, a No. 3 seed, eliminated Pfeiffer 10-0 in six innings to win the Southeast No. 2 Regional.
That puts North Georgia against Armstrong State next, and they’ll play for a bid into the NCAA Division II championship tournament on May 25-29 in Salem, Va.
North Georgia won the regional that had Lenoir-Rhyne University in the field, and it knocked the Bears out with a 5-3 victory after Limestone had handed LRU its first loss (5-3) in a double-elimination tournament.
Pfeiffer, coached by former Alexander Central High head coach Monte Sherrill and featuring several former Cougars in its lineup, had beaten Carson-Newman 7-4 and Young Harris 2-1 to move opposite Armstrong State in the Southeast No. 2 final.
