HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS: Alex Central battles North Davidson on Thursday night

TAYLORSVILLE – Alexander Central High’s next state 4A softball playoff game will be played on Thursday night.

The top-seeded Cougars (26-3) will entertain third-seeded North Davidson (24-5) at 7 p.m. in the fourth round.

Admission is $6 and the only passes accepted at the gate will be those from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), the North Carolina Coaches Association (NCCA) and Senior Tar Heel.

Alexander Central advanced to the fourth round by beating No. 5 Southwest Guilford 10-0 in six innings on Tuesday.

North Davidson advanced on Tuesday with a 3-1 home win over No. 7 South Caldwell.

Thursday’s winner reaches the West 4A title series, best-of-3, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

The other teams still alive in the West 4A bracket are No. 10 Mooresville (21-3) and No. 2 Richmond County (24-4). Their game, in Rockingham, must be played by Friday.
