HIGH SCHOOL LACROSSE PLAYOFFS: St. Stephens home on Friday in third round

HICKORY – St. Stephens High’s boys’ lacrosse team will play a third-round match at home on Friday in the 1A/2A/3A bracket.

The third-seeded Indians (12-5) will meet sixth-seeded Cuthbertson (12-5) at 7 p.m. on Friday.

In the opposite bracket, No. 4 Northern Guilford (16-1) visits No. 1 Weddington (16-1) for a Friday third-round match at 7 p.m.

The remaining teams in the East in the bracket are: No. 9 Chapel Hill, No. 2 Croatan, No. 5 Carrboro and No. 1 Cedar Ridge.

The first Final Four matches ae scheduled Tuesday.

Lake Norman alive: Lake Norman’s boys remain alive in the 4A bracket, facing No. 15 Winston-Salem Reynolds in the third round.

The Wildcats are a No. 4 seed.

In the other West bracket, No. 5 Charlotte Catholic and No. 1 Mount Tabor are still alive.

In the East, the final four teams there are No. 7 Apex, No. 5 Cardinal Gibbons, No. 3 Wilmington Hoggard and No. 1 Middle Creek.

Note: All of the area girls’ teams in an open classification chase for the state title have been eliminated. Still alive are: Charlotte Catholic, Myers Park, Chapel Hill and Weddington in the West and Raleigh Broughton, Wilmington Hoggard, Apex and Cardinal Gibbons in the East.
