CRAWDADS: 2 Hickory stars receive awards from Texas Rangers

HICKORY – Two Hickory Crawdads – infielder Yanio Perez and outfielder Leody Taveras – have been honored by the Texas Rangers, the Crawdads’ parent club.

Perez was named the organization’s Minor League Player of the Month, while Taveras won Rangers Defender of the Month.

Perez hit .358 in 23 games and posted a 1.095 OPS (on base and slugging percentage), the best in the South Atlantic League (SAL) and ninth-best in minor league baseball. He was the SAL Player of the Week for April 24-30.

Perez signed with Texas as a free agent in 2016.

TAVERAS

Taveras started 22 game in center field and had no errors in 50 chances. He also hit .247 with three home runs, nine RBIs, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases.

He signed with the Rangers in 2015 as a free agent.

Former Crawdads who were honored by the parent club include Collin Wilkes, now at Frisco (Pitcher of the Month) and Ricardo Rodriquez, playing in Kinston (Reliever of the Month).
