WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Lenoir-Rhyne’s win streak now at 4

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University has a four-match win streak as it heads into another week of South Atlantic Conference (SAC) women’s soccer.

The Bears beat visiting Wingate 4-0 on Saturday behind two goals from Aqsa Mushtaq, improving to 6-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

LRU faces Coker on the road Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a SAC match.

The Bears handled Wingate (5-2-1, 2-1) again, as they have not lost to the Bulldogs in the regular season since late October of 2009.

Abbie Brown had a goal for LRU against Wingate, her eighth of the season, and she assisted on the third goal of the season by Hannah Van Eerden.

LRU outshot Wingate 12-8 and had 10 shots on goals to the Bulldogs’ four.

Senior Loren Sterling was in goal for the Bears, making four saves over the full 90 minutes.

The win was the first at home this season for LRU.

Queens will visit LRU on Saturday at 5 p.m. for a conference match.
