WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Bears win streak at 5 after victory at Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s win streak in women’s soccer reached five matches on Wednesday night in a 3-0 victory over Coker on the road.

The Bears (7-2-1, 5-1 South Atlantic Conference) are 5-0-1 on the road this season after edging the winless Cobras (0-6, 0-3).

Abbie Brown, Stephanie Figueiredo and Judith Verdaguer each scored a goal for LRU against Coker with Brown opening the scoring in the fourth minute on an assist by Aqsa Mushtaq.

The Bears had 26 shots overall and 10 on goal, limiting Coker to five shots overall and two on goal.

Senior Loren Sterling had two saves for LRU.

The Bears have 15 points and sit atop the SAC standing, three points up on Carson-Newman but the Eagles have the tie-breaker after beating LRU 1-0 on Sept. 12.

LRU is at home Saturday at 5 p.m. for a conference match against Queens.
