WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Rollins rolls past Lenoir-Rhyne with 13 straight goals

HICKORY – Rollins scored 13 unanswered goals on Friday to roll past Lenor-Rhyne University 15-4 in women’s lacrosse at LRU.

The Bears (1-2) had a 4-2 lead early but Rollins (3-0), ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II, dominated after that.

The Tars outshot LRU 34-17, had more shots on goal (21-12), more saves (8-6), a better clearing mark (15-of-18 versus 11-of-19) and more draw controls (12-9).

Rachel Elmore, Cathleen Gaffney, Gabby Sousa and Gia Colombo each scores once for the Bears and Gaffney had two assists.

LRU’s Cassie Lafler forced three turnovers and had five ground balls.

Paige Brock scored four goals for the Tars.

Colombo, Elmore and Gaffney have each scored at least once in each LRU match this season, and they have combined for 18 of the Bears’ goals.

LRU’s next match is Monday at 4 p.m. at home against North Greenville, S.C.
