WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Lenoir-Rhyne edges Lincoln Memorial, faces Queens for tourney title

WINGATE – Rachel Elmore and Alyssa Sack combined on Friday for 11 goals, leading Lenoir-Rhyne University to a 16-8 victory over Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) women’s lacrosse tournament semifinal.

The second-seeded Bears (12-5) face top-seeded Queens (16-2) in the tournament final on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Wingate.

Queens beat fifth-seeded Wingate 20-5 in Friday’s other semifinal.

Elmore, a senior from White Plains, N.Y., scored six goals against third-seded Lincoln Memorial (12-6). She also won eight draw controls and caused four turnovers.

Sack, a red-shirt sophomore from Senoia, Ga., scored five goals, approaching her season-high of six that also came in a match against Lincoln Memorial. She added two assists.

Teanna Sieben, a freshman from Bienfait, Saskatchewan (Canada), was in gal for more than 40 minutes and collect eight saves for LRU.

The Bears won shots on goal 23-17 and caused 18 turnovers.

Elmore’s 50th goal of the year was her first on Friday, and she has scored five or more goals five times this season.

Sunday’s final is a rematch of last year’s SAC title match.
