WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Bears’ Sousa wins league’s weekly Offensive Player award

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After scoring 11 goals last week, Gabby Sousa of Lenoir-Rhyne University won the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player Of The Week award on Monday.

A junior attacker from Delran, N.J., she had 11 goals, four assists and 15 total points in matches against No 18 Tampa, No. 5 Florida Tech and Tusculum.

Sousa combined for nine goals against Tampa and Florida Tech then scored twice and had three assists as the Bears, playing at home Sunday, won an SAC match 20-9 over Tusculum.

A preseason all-league honoree, Sousa currently leads LRU in goals scored (28) and total points (35), and her 28 scores also rank second in the conference.

LRU (3-6, 3-0) plays at home Wednesday at 4 p.m., facing No. 17 Queens (2-=6, 0-1) in a league match at Moretz Stadium.
